  He obtained the Master in Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Malaga in 1995 and in 2004 he obtained the degree of Doctor in Telecommunications Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid. He joined the University of Jaén in 1995. In 2009 he achieved the accreditation and appointment to Associate Professor (Profesor Titular de Universidad). In 2023 he obtained the appointment as Full Professor (Catedrático de Universidad). He has taught undergraduate courses in Telecommunication Engineering and master's degree courses in the field of ICTs.
In terms of research, He has been a member of the "Tratamiento de Señales y Sistemas de Telecomunicación" (TIC188) research group since 2001. He is the author of a patent and 40 publications in international journals included in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR), 75% of them Q1 and Q2, and more than 60 papers in prestigious national and international conferences. He has participated in several research projects funded by public calls, being principal researcher in two project funded by the Government of Spain, two projects funded by the Junta de Andalucía, and a project funded by the University of Jaén. Additionally, he is also participating as Principal Investigator in the Spanish Research Project “Monitoring Biomedical Information based on Intelligent content retrieval from cardiac and respiratory sound signals. PID2020-119082RB-C21” founded by the Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (Spanish Government). He has participated in several scientific dissemination activities like “Noche Europea de los Investigadores”. In addition, he has participated in numerous R&D contracts with private companies, being the main researcher in several technological development projects. He was a founding partner of the company “Ingecom Servicios Jaén S.L.” 1999. He participates in two different doctorate programs at the University of Jaén: “Avances en Ingeniería de Materiales y Energías Sostenibles” y “Tecnologías de la Información y las Comunicaciones”. He has supervised 4 doctoral theses, one of them with European mention. Currently he is the supervisor of 4 doctoral theses. He is also an advisor to the Spanish National Agency for Evaluation and Prospective (ANEP) in the area of Electronics and Communications Technology since 2009.
At the international level, he has collaborated with several universities over time, resulting in numerous publications, including 12 journals in the JCR, as well as various stays at Institute of Telecommunications and Computer Science, University of Science and Technology, Bydgoszcz, Poland, with a cumulative period of 6 months. Currently, he is participating in 3 working groups in the COST Action “Understanding interaction light - biological surfaces: possibility for new electronic materials and devices” (PhoBioS) CA21159, in the European project "Transforming Regions for an inclusive Europe" (NEOLAIA), and in the European project “Researching and Encouraging the Promulgation of European Repertory through Technologies Operating on Records Interrelated Utilising Machines” (REPERTORIUM), Call HORIZON-CL2-2022-HERITAGE-01-02, In addition, he is the project coordinator of the European Project “Sustainable Innovation Investment Catapult for Permanent Magnet” (SICAPERMA), call “Interregional Innovation Investments Strand 2a (I3-2023-INV2a)”.
He has held university management positions at the University of Jaén: Vice-Dean 2004-2012 and Dean of the Higher Engineering School of Linares 2012-2020, having been responsible for 8 bachelors and 5 official masters, two of them leading to regulated profession. He has five five-year teaching periods, three six-year research periods and five autonomous sections. He has also taught university extension courses in the field of ICTs. The total number of cites of my research works is 631 in Scopus, 458 in Web of Science and 977 in Scholar. His h-index is 14 in Scopus, 13 on Web of Science and 17 in Scholar. Finally, he has been a member of the board of the “Demarcación de Andalucía Oriental y Melilla del Colegio Oficial de Ingenieros de Telecomunicación” During the periods 2005-2012 and 2020-2023. In addition, he has been a member of the board of “Asociación Andaluza de Ingenieros de Telecomunicación” (2022-2023).
