Short CV

Rocío Pérez de Prado received a MSc. degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Seville in 2008, and she has been a doctor with European Mention from the University of Jaén since 2011. She is an Associate Professor at the Telecommunication Engineering Department of the University of Jaén, involved in research since January 2009. Since 2024, she is the Head of the University Chair Evolutio-UJA for the Development of Digital Technologies.

She belongs to the Signal Processing in Telecommunications Systems Research Group (TIC188) of the University of Jaén since 2009, under which she fundamentally investigates the field of AI, machine learning, data science and telecommunications. She is the author of 64 research articles in publications indexed in Scopus, 36 of them in journals indexed in JCR (22 in Q1-Q2, having developed 23 of them in collaboration with researchers from other universities and international researchers of recognized prestige), and 11 articles in conferences included in the CORE ranking (9 IEEE) and 18 publications in other magazines, books and international conferences. Since 2020 she has been working as an expert for the EUROPEAN COMISSION in the evaluation of H2020, Horizon Europe projects and MSCA actions in calls within the field of AI. Also, since 2020, she has also been an external evaluator and member of various project selection committees of the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (FONDECYT), Peru. She is an associate editor of the official journal of the World Soft-Computing Federation indexed in JCR, Applied Soft Computing (Q1), Elsevier, since 2014 and she is also an editor in the JCR-indexed journals Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence (Q1), Elsevier. In addition, she has participated as a guest editor in 6 Special issues such as Multimedia Tools and Applications-Springer, and Soft Computing Letters-Elsevier, and has edited 2 international books. Likewise, she has participated in multiple research projects and transfer contracts with the industry. Currently participating as PI in a European project (6G-SMART) in the CELTIC-NEXT EUREKA CLUSTER 2023 call in the field of the application of AI to new generation 6G mobile networks. Likewise, she has participated in 3 national research projects, 6 regional research projects in Andalusia, and 1 research project at the University of Jaén. In relation to the transfer of research results, she has participated in 5 contracts with companies, PI in one of them, and 3 projects to promote entrepreneurial culture at the University of Jaén in the field of telecommunications engineering. It should also be noted that she has been guest of honor, chief guest and main guest lecturer in more than 5 international IEEE conferences in the area of AI, such as IEEE MYSURUCON-2023, and that she has participated, and participates, as a member of the committee organizer, head of publication, head of section and head of special session in various IEEE conferences, an association in which she was appointed senior member in 2021. She has also reviewed articles for more than 30 journals indexed in JCR and has participated and participates in scientific committees in more than 40 international conferences such as IEEE-FUZZ-24, IEEE-CEC-25 or IEEE IJCNN (2025). In 2017, 2018 and 2019 she received 3 awards from Publons-Clarivate Analytics, as a featured reviewer. In 2010 she was visiting researcher for 5 months at the Technical University of Dortmund in the Department of Systems and Control Engineering, Germany, also she has being invited as visiting researcher in Nitte University in the Computing and Engineering Department, Bangalore, India. Her works have received more than 1300 citations and she has an h-20 index according to Scopus, and 1700 citations and an h-23 index according to Google Scholar (July 2025). She has 2 recognized six-year research periods.

In the teaching field, she currently teaches 2 bachelor's degrees and 3 master's degrees in the field of telecommunications engineering, artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing. In addition, she has supervised 26 final degree dissertations, final master's dissertations and final degree projects, and 1 doctoral thesis, and is currently supervising 1 doctoral thesis. She is the author of 1 teaching publication indexed in Journal Citation Reports (JCR), 17 teaching publications in conferences, 3 books, she has participated in 8 teaching innovation projects (IP in 2 of them). In 2025 she received an award for the Best Teaching Innovation Project as PI at the University of Jaén. In the two academic years 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 she received 2 awards from the University of Jaén for Good Teaching Practices Perceived by Students and in 2024 she received the Excellent Mention for her teaching career in the University of Jaén. She has 2 recognized teaching five-year terms.
