Aims:

The subject 'Literatura Inglesa y sus relaciones con la literatura europea' is conceived as a grounding course on comparative literature in the restricted field of English literature viewed mainly from the point of view of its relations with nearby European literature up to 1660.

Our aim is to show the undercurrent of shared tradition and mutual influence within the context of the western canon running throughout English literature, and this as seen from a dyachronical point of view as shown in the syllabus below.

The active involvement of the students is absolutely necessary to carry out this course, especially taking into account its virtual character. The students will be asked to perform the following tasks:

The classes will consists in one lecture per week by the lecturer, the other sessions being largely collaborative activities in which both theoretical and practical aspects will be dealt with through such specific virtual resources as forums, chats, discussion groups, and email.

Assessment:

There will be one major examination at the end of course. This final examination will share with the grading obtained through the assignments (papers and commentaries) proposed. Papere are then  as a very important way to qualify the final mark

The rating of the final grading will be:

I will take into account attendance, and class participation in class, forums, etc. which will be factored into the students' participation grade. Participation and attendance thus will be taken into account within the final mark amounting to an extra 10 %. Attendance will be taken into account only when it amounts to a minimum of over 65 % of the classes given.

You will be responsible for emailing your assignments to your instructor. If, for some reason, you are unable to deliver it before the deadline, the assignment will be left online for one (1) additional week ONLY. If you have failed to turn in your assignment when it is one week late, you will receive a "0" for that portion of your grade.

How to deal with the reading assessments:

You must read the texts given to you, attempting to find common relationships among them, and their relevance with respects to the main questions put forward in the class-notes concerning both the topic in question. In any case you will have the help of a general guideline with instructions and questions to prompt your answers and your better profiting from the texts.

Study Instructions:

Remember that you are the active part in this virtual course, which means among other things that you will carry out all the tasks on your own. A well planned and executed timing will be fundamental for the successful conclusion of the course.

However, you will be in contact with your instructor and with other classmates.

Ready made instructions and those you requested by the students when in trouble will come to your aid in due time.
