Nicolás Ruiz was born in Linares (Jaén), Spain, in 1967. He received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Telecommunication Engineering from the Technical University of Madrid (UPM) and the University of Alcalá, in 1993 and 2001, respectively. Since 1998, he is Associate Professor in Signal Processing and Communications at the Telecommunication Engineering Department of the University of Jaén. Currently, Nicolás Ruiz is the head of the Department.

Dr. Ruiz-Reyes is also head of the research group "Signal Processing for Telecommunication Systems" (Group TIC-188 of the PAI). He is member of the IEEE Signal Processing Society and the AES (Audio Engineering Society).  His areas of research interest are Signal Processing and its Applications to Communications, Speech and Audio Analysis, Electrical and Biomedical Engineering and Ultrasonic NDT. He is co-author of more than 100 papers published in the proceedings of prestigious International Conferences and in journals included into the Journal Citation Report (JCR). He has been involved in research projects of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Education (MEC), European Commission, and private companies.
