José Santamaría, PhD

Dr. Santamaría was born in Barcelona and currently lives in the province of Jaén (Spain), together with his family. His main research interests include Computer Vision and Deep Learning research topics. He began his scientific career in 2003. Throughout his career, he has had different research and teaching activities in the Universities of Cádiz, Granada, and Jaén. Currently, he is Associate Professor of the Department of Computer Science of the University of Jaén. He heads the Research Group “Applied Computational Engineering” (ICOA).

After more than 20 years of experience in scientific research, he has managed to supervise several students that have successfully achieved their Master and PhD degrees. Also, he has been involved in more than 10 funded research projects as Principal Investigator and team member. The high scientific impact of his research papers can be appreciated by more than 10K accumulated citations, and h-index greater than 30 at Scopus, Google Scholar, and Web of Science. Moreover, he has been considered one of the top cited scholars around the World from 2016 to 2026 (see Awards). Indeed, several of his research papers have been classified as Highly Cited Papers with more than 1,000 citations.

He is the co-inventor of an internationally patented invention adopted by the Mexican and Spanish governments (see the Face2Skull software). He is a reviewer and Guest Editor in several International Journals. Moreover, he is editorial board member in some renowned scientific journals, and Associate Editor of the Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine (Elsevier). The research group that he leads has several international collaborations with prestigious academic and research institutions.
